Want to be part of something big?

The Geelong Waterfront Film – ’48 Hour Film Frenzy’ is bringing back high-energy ‘real-time’ filmmaking to the Geelong region.

Taking place over the weekend of October 11-13, 2024, filmmakers from around Australia will converge on the Geelong region to create short 4-7 minute films that feature Geelong, but also must include three crucial elements that will be revealed at the launch of the weekend event ensuring films are created on the weekend of the event.

Open to all ages and abilities, Geelong Waterfront Film – ’48 Hour Film Frenzy’ offers awards for professional and amateur filmmakers, high school and university students and anyone with an interest in filmmaking.

The ‘best film’ will also be shown at the 2024 North Bellarine Film Festival.

The Geelong Waterfront Film – ’48 Hour Film Frenzy’ will be promoted extensively across Australia and encourages participation from all levels of film-maker – amateur and professional.

Every film shot over the weekend will be screened in local cinema as well as across the world through established digital channels including instagram, facebook, tik-tok and youtube.

In the weeks leading up to the event teams will plan their film – scope locations, write their script and cast their actors and crews.

Geelong Waterfront Film will also offer filmmaking workshops to assist participants with script writing, location planning, shooting and editing – these workshops will be facilitated by industry professionals and offer a chance for newcomers an opportunity to learn from industry experts.

While much can be planned in advance, three key criteria will be revealed on the Friday night prior to event start.

These key criteria must be included in each film:

  • A KEY PROP – a key prop that must feature in the film.
  • A LINE OF DIALOGUE – film-makers will be given a line of dialogue that has to be said verbatim in their film.
  • LOCATION – We’ll also provide a Geelong location that one scene must be filmed at.

These three unique details will push filmmakers creativity and hopefully be the key to your success.

In the weeks following the event, a series of screenings in Geelong and a premiere awards night will be held at a local Cinema.

Celebrities from the film industry will honour filmmakers with various awards and the inaugural Geelong Waterfront Film – ’48 Hour Film Frenzy Laurel’.

Multiple prize categories will be awarded for Best Film in various categories.
