Are you prepared for the 48:Hour Frenzy Challenge?

The hunt is on for budding filmmakers! Are you to shooting, editing and submitting a short film in 48 Hours?

In March 2026, Filmmakers of all ages and abilities will put their creative skills to work as they race to create a short film in just 48 Hours. Could you do it? 

Participants will range from professional to amatuer filmmakers including high school students and uni students, with prizes and laurels across all categories. 

Every eligible film will be screened at Geelong’s Pivotonian Cinema  and the film voted best by the judging panel will also be shown in November at the North Bellarine Film Festival. 

So, what are you waiting for?  Assemble your crew – which can consist of as many members as you wish – and begin planning, including scoping locations, writing the script and casting your actors! 

But, to keep you on your toes, remember, on Friday 27th March, we will reveal three surprise details that must be incorporated into each film – a key prop, a line of dialogue and a location. In 2024 the key prop was “a sandwhich”, line of dialogue was”    and location – a front door.  But, 2026 will be different again ! 

Entries CLOSE midnight Wednesday 25th March 2026 – Make sure you register before then!

Geelong Advertiser From The Mayoress

Thanks to City of Greater Geelong Mayoress, Paul Kontelj for the article in the Geelong Advertiser. Paul entered the shoot out back in the early 2000’s and has fond memories of the fun experience. Back then, no editing at all was allowed! 

The winning film that year was called ‘Bright Lights’ which was conceived and directed by Jarrah Gurrie. This was the impetuous for Jarrah to apply to a New York film School. He went on to spend two decades in the US as a renowned motion picture editor, working with the likes of Madonna, Nick Minaj and Ricky Martin. 

Perhaps there is another budding star out there, waiting to be discovered?
