About the North Bellarine Film Festival
Established in 2017, the North Bellarine Film Festival (NBFF) has rapidly become one of the most important cultural events in the region, bringing high-quality, diverse cinema to the Bellarine Peninsula. With its rich programming of Australian and international films, the festival fosters regional, state, and national filmmaking talent, creating a platform for independent filmmakers to showcase their work.
The festival’s focus on short films produced by independent filmmakers, alongside its acclaimed feature films, has helped it grow into a key event that attracts audiences from across Victoria. The festival has garnered attention for its rich diversity in content and its commitment to supporting filmmakers at every stage of their career.
The Emerging Documentary Filmmaker Award
In addition to the long-established Emerging Filmmaker Award, in 2024 the North Bellarine Film Festival introduced the Emerging Documentary Filmmaker Award.
Proudly sponsored by Geelong Waterfront Film and the Portarlington and Drysdale branches of the Community Bank, this award is dedicated to celebrating the talent of young documentary filmmakers under 25 years of age. It’s designed to highlight the strong potential of up-and-coming filmmakers who are paving the way for powerful, thought-provoking documentary filmmaking.
The documentary format has long been a staple for exploring important societal issues, uncovering hidden stories, and documenting the world around us. We’re excited to see how the next generation of filmmakers will use this platform to inspire, challenge, and captivate audiences.
