Geelong is set to host a large festival of queer cinema next week. Geelong Pride Film Festival (GPFF) will host the much anticipated Australian premiere of American indie drama, Drip Like Coffee, which screens on 2 May with the filmmaker present.
Screening on Saturday, 2nd May at Platform Arts, this feature film by writer-director Anaiis Cisco promises to be one of the standout highlights of the 2026 festival. In a coup for GPFF and local cinephiles, Cisco will be in attendance to participate in an exclusive Q&A session immediately following the film.
Set against the vibrant, shifting tapestry of Brooklyn, Drip Like Coffee follows Kali, a creative and dedicated barista juggling the weight of a needy boyfriend and a boss who ignores her fresh ideas. Her world is profoundly transformed when the artistic, up-and-coming photographer Mel becomes her co-worker. As the two women bond behind the café counter, their shared passions are reawakened. An unexpected romance blossoms, testing their understanding of love and pushing them to discover their true desires.
Beyond its central romance, the film is a nuanced exploration of Black queer identity, community, and the ever-present threat of housing insecurity. By treating its protagonists with tenderness and care, Drip Like Coffee expands the landscape of queer cinema, providing a much-needed spotlight on stories that have historically been pushed to the margins.
GPFF Festival Director Louise Lever says securing the Australian premiere is a testament to the festival’s growing reputation and its commitment to amplifying underrepresented voices.

The inclusion of the film aligns perfectly with GPFF’s mission to showcase diverse lived experiences from across the global LGBTIQA+ spectrum.
