Anglesea Movie Club screens a monthly movie (projected DVD) to approx 160 of its 300 members each month.
At the end of the calendar year, the surplus funds are applied to 2 ventures: the Anglesea Shorts Film Festival and a 2 day school holiday program on Film Making.
The Film Festival is in its third year with the next event on 28 Feb 2027 at the Anglesea Memorial Hall which is transformed into a movie theatre.
There are 3 categories of film makers eligible to enter the competition – Juniors up to 13 yrs, Seniors 14-18 and this year we are including an Open section for 19+ (no age limit). 6 finalists from each category will have their films screened at the festival event and the 3 winners will receive trophies and prize money. The Junior winner $500, Senior winner $1000 and the Open age winner $1500.
There will be 2 Film Making Courses in the September 2026 school holidays. It is hoped that what the participants learn will prepare them for making a short film (3 minutes) to enter into the Anglesea Shorts competition.
The film courses are heavily subsidised by the Movie Club and conducted by a professional Film Maker, who is also one of the judges in the Film Festival. Lunch and morning teas are provided.
The festival event in February has a small booking fee but is essentially funded by the Movie Club as well, including food, drinks, popcorn and ice-cream.
The Movie Club does not have a website but is listed in the Community directory of the Anglesea Community House where membership to the movie club is facilitated.
