Janet Brown is a writer. Her short film, plays and short stories have won awards in Australia, England and Canada.

Independent theatre companies have staged her plays since 2004 and several scripts are published by Currency Press and Australian Plays. She is sought after as a mentor by other writers, both experienced and emerging. She lives in the Surf Coast region.

Her work is published in books, anthologies and literary journals in Australia and America. She has a Master of Arts in Creative Writing and a BSc Ed.

She wrote and produced her award winning short film ‘Water, Water’ directed by Iris Walshe Howling, featuring Claudia Clark, which screened at film festivals in Australia, Spain and Canada.

In 2020, director Socratis Otto filmed an adaptation of her award winning stage play The Hope Song in Sydney. Featuring: Di Smith, Luke Carroll, Socratis Otto, Mia Morrissey, Emma Dalton, Mel Day, Richard Cotter, Grant Lyndon, Chantelle Gardiner, music: Leo Bosi.

Janet is currently working on “Molly Bloom”.
