New chair brings deep understanding of arts and culture.
It’s an exciting time for film in Geelong as Geelong Waterfront Film continues to pave the way for a viable film industry in the region.
Geelong Waterfront Film announced today the appointment of Michael Stangel as chair to the board of directors.
Outgoing chair, Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeon Dr Martin Ching will continue on the Board as Deputy Chair.
“Having been a regular visitor to the South by Southwest Film and TV festival in Austin Texas representing the artists, Michael will offer the group further insight into the world of film and connections to industry experts,” Dr Ching said.
An Australian record producer, singer, and songwriter, Stangel became a household name when he was a finalist in The Voice Australia, 2013. Stangel is well known in the entertainment scene playing nationally.
He also has a production management company and has represented artists including Taylor Henderson, Justice Crew, Nathaniel, and Merrill Bainbridge.
Involved in creative development of concepts for film and TV, Stangel has worked on films including Ned Kelly, Cracker Jack, Can’t Stop the Murders, TV Series Fat Pizza, and Logie Award winning Australian comedy series Housos.
With a strong interest in film production, he is keen on supporting emerging artists, putting the spotlight on the talent that already exists in the region, and to see Geelong thrive as an international film destination.
“I look forward to contributing to the role with passion and dedication. Geelong is already a highly creative and artistic city and is undergoing a transformation which can be complemented by a film culture. I see so much potential.”
With a rapidly growing number of Geelong Waterfront Film members, and the support of a range of organisations and individuals as a first step we look forward to further developing the database of those involved or wish to be involved in the industry. “
Respected Geelong lawyer, Andrew Senia also joins the Board of Directors. This brings the number of board members to nine.
